Poverty in Sheffield Today: Finding a Way Forward
10am to 12:30pm Saturday November 29th at Victoria Hall Methodist Church
 
This meeting will offer an overview of problems of poverty in Sheffield today. The programme includes:

  • opening talk by the Bishop of Sheffield;
  • The first public presentation of the challenging results of recent LISTEN UP interviews with local people in poverty;
  • “The impact of benefit sanctions”, drawing on the recent report by Sheffield Citizens’ Advice Bureau
  • “Food banks: why we have them and how to dispense with them”
  • “Progress with Sheffield Fairness Commission recommendations” by Professor Alan Walker, Commission Chair
Everyone concerned about poverty in Sheffield is invited to come. Entrance is free. There will be ample opportunities to contribute. Doors open at 9:30am with refreshments available. There will be time for informal discussion and networking to 1pm.
